2023 6th IACLE Virtual Conference
‘Incorporating Myopia Management into Teaching’ conducted on 21 October

IACLE President Prof Philip Morgan welcomed the half-day event, which was chaired by IACLE Director Dr Byki Huntjens and Secretary / Treasurer Prof Etty Bitton.

Centered around the theme ‘Incorporating myopia management into teaching’, IACLE’s 6th Virtual Conference drew approximately 90 global delegates. Responding to educators’ needs, the conference focused on the educational dimension of myopia management rather than its usual clinical aspects. Esteemed experts in myopia and education shared their insights.
The scientific session commenced with a literature update by Professor John Lawrenson, emphasizing the critical assessment of updated literature, particularly living systematic reviews. Dr Andrew Pucker provided useful insights from his program’s journey into integrating myopia management into the curriculum. Professor Renée Reeder discussed implementing laboratories for experiential learning, emphasizing activities like role-playing and lens fittings. Dr Patrick Simard shared a step-by-step guide to setting up a myopia clinic, covering fees, referrals, consent forms, and the patient’s journey. Dr Rohan Hughes discussed the responsibilities of students and supervising optometrists in myopia treatment.
