‘Effect of water exposure on the contact lens storage case’ with Dr Memoona Arshad

Water exposure during contact lens wear can transfer pathogenic microorganisms to the eye and cause ocular complications. Dr Memoona Arshad and her co-authors determined that water exposure is prevalent among lens wearers and is independently associated with higher case contamination. In this webinar, she will discuss the findings of their study. The webinar will be introduced by IACLE Gold Sponsor, CooperVision, and chaired by IACLE Vice President Dr Shehzad Naroo.

BCLA Webinar: Management of contact lens related keratitis
The British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) invites IACLE members to their member-only webinar on ‘Management of contact lens related keratitis’ with Indy Sian.
The webinar will feature an overview of infectious and non-infectious contact lens related keratitis. Our understanding of prevention and prophylaxis of contact lens-related keratitis has been informed by several well designed prospective epidemiological studies describing incidence rates and risk factors and recent evidence for causative organisms, pathophysiology, and the differences between individuals. This talk aims to discuss the predisposing factors, investigations, and management of this condition.
Updated Distance Learning Program launching this month
The Distance Learning Program (DLP) is a great tool to test an educators’ contact lens knowledge and can be accessed via IACLETOP. The DLP is being reviewed and updated, and each phase will now link to learning outcomes to allow members to judge how their knowledge is progressing.

Refresh your contact lens knowledge with the Case Report Series
Our interactive Case Report Series consists of 10 case series with 31 case reports designed to confirm your contact lens knowledge and understanding. Certificates are given upon completion, along with instant feedback. In addition, members who have a Student Area can selectively release any case reports to students to support their learning experience.

Congratulations to all who successfully passed the Fellowship Exam!
In November 2021, over 160 members, including Educator Members, Associate Members, and Industry Members, took the IACLE Fellowship Exam, with 39% of candidates successfully passing the exam. The exam was administered in a total of five languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Bahasa, and Korean.
To support and prepare members sitting the exam, IACLE developed a designated area within IACLETOP where members could take part in monthly tutorials, discussion groups and mock exams. IACLE conducts the Fellowship Exam every two years, and members can sit the exam as many times as they wish. The next exam will take place in 2023.
Apply for FIACLE status
A successful outcome of the Fellowship Exam qualifies members to apply to become a Fellow of IACLE (FIACLE), providing they have held IACLE membership for at least one year and meet the FIACLE terms and conditionsandmember guidelines. If you would like to apply for FIACLE status, please fill out the application form by Friday 25 February. The IACLE Board of Directors will review the applications, and approval of FIACLE status will be issued in March.

Student Trial Exam
The IACLE Education Team are reviewing the Student Trial Exam (STE) and adding new content. The review includes dividing the questions into key curriculum categories to align with those in the Fellowship Program. The team are also developing a Basic STE to allow educators to assess their students’ knowledge at the beginning of their learning experience.
