Freely floating cysticercosis cyst from anterior chamber

Ankit Varshney from Shree Bharatimaiya College of Optometry Surat in India captured this image using a Zeiss slit lamp and camera attachment. A 24-year-old male reported to the outpatient department with a history of watering, pain and decreased visual acuity. The patient noticed something floating in the right eye. He reported a history of eating meat (pork). Slit-lamp examination revealed a live cyst in the anterior chamber of the right eye. The cyst was excised by the surgeon and oral prednisolone and topical steroids were given post-operatively. Cysticercosis is an infection caused by the pork tapeworm.

More than 500 delegates attended the 11th Asia Cornea & Contact Lens Conference last month (9-10 April).  ‘ACCLC is a huge conference in Asia and this was its first time in Korea,’ says IACLE National Coordinator Kyounghee Park. ‘Most of Korea’s IACLE members and FIACLEs attended to get new information. Even though the contact lens market is increasing rapidly in Korea, the direction is only to cosmetic and coloured lenses, rather than, for instance, multifocals. ACCLC was an opportunity for wider interest in contact lenses. Of course, IACLE will be at the centre of this trend.’
