IACLE Board and staff set goals for the futureNew IACLE resources, programs and events are in prospect for members worldwide, following a Strategic Planning Meeting held to coincide with Academy 2018 (6 November). Findings from the 2018 Membership Survey will help inform IACLE’s future direction. President Dr Shehzad Naroo commented: ‘This was a great opportunity to discuss the outcomes of the previous strategic review meeting and plan ahead for the next set of IACLE initiatives. It was warming to see that we have achieved the targets set at the last meeting. Looking ahead, some great goals and projects were outlined and now we will see how we can implement these.’ Our Annual General Meeting took place during Academy 2018 (8 November) and included a review of activities in each region over the past year. A full report on IACLE involvement in Academy 2018 will feature in next month’s newsletter |

Obituary: Bernard BarthelemyBernard Barthélemy, a graduate of the Paris School of Optometry and Université Paris-Sud, had been teaching contact lenses for more than 35 years when he lost his fight with cancer on 21 October. Bernard was a former Associate Professor at Paris-Sud, on the board of management of the European Council of Optics and Optometry, and IACLE Vice President for Europe. He authored many books – such as Contactologie – and other publications.
