IMAGE OF THE MONTH

Multiple bubbles under a scleral lens

FIACLE Prasad Sawant from the Sawant Optometry Clinic in Dombivli-Mumbai, India, captured this image using a Samsung S9 and slit-lamp biomicroscope. The image shows the formation of multiple air bubbles under a scleral contact lens. Air bubbles are a common challenge in scleral lens fitting and are usually due to improper application (see below) and/or the edge of the lens being loose in one particular meridian, when a spherical haptic scleral lens is fitted on a toric sclera.

IACLE seeks speakers for 2019 French congress

Following a successful IACLE meeting in Paris in May (pictured), we are planning to support a Contact Lens Session at the next Congrès d’Optométrie and Contactologie. The presenters will all be members of IACLE. The congress will take place on 20 and 21 January 2019 in Montrouge, Ile-de-France. Lectures and/or practical sessions can be presented in English as well as French, so we are seeking members and FIACLEs who would be prepared to join our French members on the speaker program. A number of topics have been suggested so if you are interested in being part of this event please contact s.allen@iacle.org to receive more details.

FIACLE status helps build professional relationships in France

Optometrist Arnaud Massenet, of Aix-Marseille Université in France, achieved FIACLE status following a successful outcome in the 2017 Fellowship Exam. ‘I’m very proud to be part of the FIACLE community and I feel more valued and invested in the world of contactology,’ says Arnaud. ‘Fellowship allows us to demonstrate our knowledge in this field – especially to ophthalmologists – but also our desire to participate in the mission of IACLE in an active way, trying to standardize the teaching of contact lenses in France and more broadly in the world. Becoming a FIACLE should make things easier, by reassuring ophthalmologists that they can delegate more easily.’
